TutorSplash Safety and Privacy Guidelines for Tutors
TutorSplash Safety and Privacy Guidelines for Tutors
Overview
TutorSplash is committed to providing a safe, secure, and inclusive environment for all learners. All tutors are responsible for upholding the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and privacy. These guidelines outline your responsibilities and expectations while using the TutorSplash platform.
1. Tutor Responsibilities for Safety
- All classes must be conducted through TutorSplash’s built-in video conferencing system. Use of personal Zoom, Google Meet, or other third-party conferencing tools is strictly prohibited.
- Tutors must always be present and supervising the session.
- Never leave learners unattended.
- Ensure their camera is on and face visible for the entire session.
- Maintain a professional, distraction-free environment.
2. Verifying Learner Identity
- Learners must appear on camera at the start of each session.
- Voice recognition is not sufficient for verification.
- If a learner refuses to enable their camera, you may place them in a waiting room and follow up after class.
- If you suspect an adult is trying to access a class, do not admit them and report the incident immediately to support@tutorsplash.com.
3. Reporting Concerns
- Use the built-in "Report" button during sessions.
- For non-urgent concerns, email support@tutorsplash.com.
- For potential emergencies involving a child's safety, tutors may be required to contact law enforcement or child protection services, in accordance with provincial/federal laws.
4. Background Checks and Legal Compliance
- All tutors must complete a Canadian Criminal Record Check through Certn (including optional Vulnerable Sector Check).
- Submit valid government-issued ID.
- Accept TutorSplash's Terms of Use, Code of Conduct, and Session Policies.
Only tutors who receive a "Clear" background check status and complete a successful phone interview will be approved to work with learners.
5. Conducting Safe Classes
- Enforce a respectful, inclusive learning space.
- Avoid any discussions of inappropriate, adult, or illegal topics.
- Prohibit use or display of weapons, substances, or discriminatory content.
- Ensure all content is age-appropriate and declared in the class description if sensitive in nature.
- Follow classroom management best practices and redirect disruptive behavior constructively.
6. Communication and Privacy
- All communication must remain on the TutorSplash platform.
- Do not share personal emails, phone numbers, or social media with learners or parents.
- Do not accept gifts, send prizes, or engage in off-platform contact.
- Parent interactions must be professional and occur via the built-in parent-tutor messaging tool.
7. Video and Recordings
- All sessions are automatically recorded.
- Tutors must not download, distribute, or repurpose any class recording.
- Learners who reveal personal information or appear inappropriately dressed must be muted and privately advised to resolve the issue.
- Any privacy concern must be reported for potential video redaction.
8. Parental Involvement
- Parents may observe from a distance but must not participate in group classes.
- In 1-on-1 sessions, brief parent involvement may be permitted at the start or end to discuss progress.
9. Safety in Curriculum Design
- Classes that involve physical activity, tools, or emotionally sensitive topics must include clear parental guidance.
- Avoid any mental health counseling or therapy-related discussions. Redirect learners who raise these topics and report concerns if necessary.
10. Platform Boundaries and Integrity
- Tutors may not admit guests, substitute teachers, or co-hosts unless pre-approved by TutorSplash.
- Use of external software or games must comply with child privacy laws and platform policy.
- All safety features, including content filtering, session monitoring, and restricted word detection, are enforced platform-wide.
Commitment to Mandatory Reporting
All tutors on TutorSplash are expected to understand and follow their legal obligation to report suspected abuse, neglect, or imminent harm to relevant child protection agencies. Our support team is available to guide you through these responsibilities.
By tutoring on TutorSplash, you agree to uphold these safety and privacy guidelines in full. Failure to do so may result in suspension or permanent removal from the platform.
